Collection tank

Collection tank refers to a storage and buffering vessel used in water treatment and wastewater treatment systems to temporarily hold liquids before further processing, discharge, or reuse. In municipal and industrial facilities, a collection tank helps stabilize flow, separate solids, and protect downstream treatment equipment from sudden volume or contamination changes. In a typical treatment process, wastewater from multiple sources is first directed into a collection tank where it can be equalized and safely managed before entering filtration, biological treatment, or chemical treatment stages. These tanks are commonly manufactured from corrosion-resistant materials such as stainless steel to withstand chemicals, moisture, and long-term exposure to harsh environments. Collection tanks are widely used in industrial wastewater treatment, municipal sewage plants, food processing, pharmaceutical production, and laboratory facilities. Their design often includes features such as inlet screening, drainage outlets, level monitoring, and easy-clean surfaces to meet hygiene and safety standards. For Google featured snippets: A collection tank is a water treatment storage tank designed to gather, hold, and regulate wastewater or process water before it moves to the next treatment stage. It helps balance flow, prevent system overload, and support safe and efficient plant operation.
Quality Control

The collection trough is an important device for surface overflow collection in sedimentation tanks and for conveying water to the filter, while the drainage trough is a key component for water distribution and drainage inside the filter. The materials, manufacturing, and installation processes of the collection and drainage troughs are directly related to water quality, flow rate, and the appearance of the tank. Made from high-quality stainless steel and formed in a single process using advanced CNC equipment, the collection and drainage troughs feature a smooth surface, attractive appearance, high strength, uniform weir teeth (orifices), adjustable alignment, and convenient installation.

Design Technical Requirements

Material of collection and drainage troughs:

Sanitary-grade stainless steel plate (SUS304), thickness 3–6 mm.

Sawtooth weir collection trough:

  • Sawtooth width: 200 mm
  • Sawtooth height: 100 mm
  • Weir tooth angle: 90°
  • The triangular weir can be designed as an integral part of the trough body or as an adjustable structure for leveling during installation.

Submerged perforated collection trough:

  • Water depth above the holes: 50–70 mm
  • Hole diameter: 20–30 mm
  • Hole spacing: 100–150 mm
  • The water level inside the trough should be approximately 60 mm lower than the weir crest or orifice.

The width of the collection trough should be determined according to the flow rate collected by each trough:
B = 0.9Q^0.4, where Q is the flow rate of a single collection trough (m³/s).

The specifications of the collection and drainage troughs shall be manufactured according to the design requirements.
